Realising the Potential of the Maritime Sector Towards the Growth and the Development of the Maltese Economy

This study defines and analyses the current and future potential of the Maritime Sector towards the growth and development of the Maltese Economy in terms of the generation of value-added and employment, including recommendations for policy initiatives for the continuous success of the Maritime Sector. This report presents high-level policy recommendations based on a case study approach to address the competitiveness gaps identified through an analysis of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) pertaining to the Maritime Sector. Furthermore, a recommendation is proposed for the creation of a National Framework for the Maritime Sector in Malta to bring together all the different maritime industries for better use of resources as a way forward.


A Study of the Socio-Economic Impacts of Med SOX ECA on Malta

E-Cubed Consultants carried out a study which assessed the socio-economic impacts in Malta that may potentially arise from the designation of Mediterranean Sea as a Sulphur Emission Control Area. The study assessed the impacts on the shipping industry from the proposed requirement, and their direct and indirect effects on business, households and Government entities in Malta. The study also provided recommendations with respect to the policy options required to mitigate any negative effects involved.

Economic and Social Analysis of Marine, Coastal, Inland Surface and Transitional Water Bodies in Malta

The aim of this study was to present and support the work being undertaken by the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) in compliance with the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) and Water Framework Directive (WFD). This represents the second wave of analysis carried out for the Maltese Islands within the MSFD requirements. The analysis, in this study, consists of two elements, (i) an economic and social analysis of marine waters in Malta and (ii) an estimate of the costs of degradation to the marine environment.
